Proud mommy and baby
Little angel
Becoming more alert everyday!Payton had her first doctor's appointment today, and it went really well. Kyle and I really like the pediatrician we chose, and he said she looks great! When we were visited by the lactation consultant in the hospital, we discovered she wasn't really sucking when feeding; she was "chomping", which means she wasn't getting the milk she needed and it wasn't too pleasant for mom either... we didn't figure it out though until she was a couple days old, and as a result she lost 10% of her birth weight in the hospital. So we had to supplement a little bit with formula and I'm pumping after almost every feeding, but I think we're finally starting to get the hang of it! She's been gaining weight too, so the doctor was really pleased with that. It was a rough couple days, but I think we've finally turned a corner. I really wanted to be successful at breastfeeding, so I am so relieved and hope that it only gets better!
She's only been a part of our lives for six days, but we never thought we could love someone so much. She's already starting to show personality, which is so much fun. We call her "houdini" because although she loves being swaddled, she somehow magically is able to free her hands every time, no matter how tight it is! Her legs and arms are really strong, and can make changing a diaper really challenging. :) It's been a lot of work, but worth every second. My mom has been staying with me and has been the biggest help ever, I don't know how I would have gotten through this week without her!
I'll try and post more pics periodically when I have time! Time to nap...
Love,
The Hall family :)

She just looks better everytime.
ReplyDeleteYour cousin wouldn't nurse either she held out for about four days. Hang in there she will get the hang of it.
Uncle Bob
She looks great I took pictures with me to weightwatchers this morning and everyone thought she was such a beautiful baby and of course "GG" agreed with them. They all commented on her skin how perfect it was. Glad she is getting the hang o nursing. Love you "GG" Book
ReplyDeleteI think my dad is talking about me up there...but seriously, I have a friend who is all about nursing and I swear knows more than most doctors about boobs/breastmilk/nursing. Her first child was born a month early and she struggled a lot with nursing. She said she'd love to talk or email if you have questions or just want to chat. Text or email me and I'll send you her info. Seriously, she's a baby addict, she'd love it!
ReplyDeleteI remember the hospital asking if I would like a lactation consultant to visit me and I said sure, that would be great. In my mind though, I was wondering why in the world would I need someone else to show me how to nurse?! In my mind, you offer the boob and the baby blissfully drinks away. Well, McKenna didn't have a clue and either did I. I was about in tears by the time the consultant came and boy was I glad to see her and learn from her. Needless to say, Kenna is 15 now...we figured it out. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThey have legs and arms of steel, don't they?! I had no idea they scrunched up so tiny and tight just prior to changing them. Hint, hint...they're not as fragile as they look. By the time you have a 2nd child you'll be flipping a newborn every which direction to get those clothes on.
I'm so glad you have your Mom there. She rocks and is so helpful. This is a wonderful time for her and I bet she is cherishing every moment with all of you.
Love you girl. You're doing a terrific MOM job!
What is it with the Casebolt's and Book's have breast feeding problems. Lol:) I am so happy that she is doing good. I am also happy that I can watch Kimi and Kirby on the weekends so your mom and dad can come down and be able to help out and spend lots of time with you guys. Love you three so much!!!
ReplyDeleteI tried to post Saturday from my phone, but it foiled me everytime.
ReplyDeleteConsidering breastfeeding is 'natural', I found nothing natural about all the pushing, poking, prodding, doctors, lactation consultants, and effort that went into this process.
It is not easy, hang in there and keep up the good work!
Although there is nothing easy about motherhood (especially early motherhood), I wouldn't trade it (or them) for anything.
