Payton had her 2 month well visit at the doctor this morning, and also got started on her vaccinations. She's growing perfectly! She's a big girl too, her height, weight and head circumference are all in the 90th percentile! She weighed 11 pounds 14 ounces, and is 22.5 inches long. Even though she was 21.5 inches at birth, she only measured about 20.5 inches at her 2 week checkup; they say that's pretty common because the head is usually a little cone shaped after birth, so it may not be as accurate. That means she's already grown about 2 inches in 6 weeks! The doctor said she's perfectly proportional though, and very strong and alert. I was really not looking forward to her shots, she had to get 3 in the thigh and an oral vaccine. The oral one is sweetened, so they gave it after the shots hoping it acts like a little treat and calms them down. Yeah right! I had Kyle hold her little hand so I didn't have to see her face... I know, I'm a wuss. :) She got REALLY ticked (we've never seen her face so red) and cried for a couple minutes, but after that she was fine and fell asleep. I have a feeling it was probably way more traumatic for me than it was for her! Thank goodness we don't have to go back until the beginning of July :)
This weekend Kyle is reenacting in Albany, so we're going to head down there on Friday and stay for the weekend. I'm not going to take Payton to the battle, but I'll take her to visit her dad in between battles. It's also his brother Bryan's birthday that Monday, so we're going to celebrate that as well! Should be a fun weekend!

Seaside
This weekend Kyle, Payton and I went on our first family trip to Seaside! We only went for two nights, but if you looked at our bags you would have thought we were going for a week... you have to bring a lot of stuff with a newborn! It was so much fun though, and although Payton didn't seem too aware of her surroundings, I'm sure she enjoyed herself! :)
We got to Seaside Thursday afternoon, and after bringing our stuff to our room decided to go for a walk on the beach because it was GORGEOUS out! Not very warm, but for the Oregon coast in April, it couldn't get much better! We got to stay at the Worldmark too, which is a giant hotel right on the beach on the boardwalk. What was really nice about staying there too was it had a full kitchen, washer/dryer... it was our own little condo!
The view from our living room!
Getting all bundled up in my bear suit to go to the beach
If this could have a caption it would be "really mom? another picture?" :) sometimes the flash on my camera turns her birthmark dark blue, it's weird but I'm not sure why!
I love my little bear :)
Thursday night we just walked to a pizza place and got it to go and hung out in our room. We had a really good night sleepwise too, she went almost five hours and then another four hours! Kyle and I felt so refreshed!
Hanging at the hotel in my first pair of jeans!
We decided to eat at Pig N Pancake Friday morning (we always eat there when we're at the coast!) and it was the first time Kyle and I have taken her to a restaurant. We were a little nervous, but she was fine. Of course she wanted to be held right when our food came, so we took turns holding her while we ate. :) We escaped unscathed! After that, we decided to head to the outlet mall, Kyle always likes to swing by the Nike outlet. I didn't realize they had a Carter's outlet though! VERY pleasant surprise! It was like baby clothes heaven in there, there were SO many adorable outfits. I told Kyle to give me a limit otherwise I could buy way too much, so we set a limit at two outfits... which slowly turned into three... which slowly turned into four! I eventually cut myself off, but it was very hard. :)
One of my new outfits!
Mom had to get these at the Nike outlet too :)
We also wandered around the boardwalk and took another walk on the beach.
Don't I look like I'm having a blast?! :)

Cuddling with daddy

While we were wandering the boardwalk, Kyle saw a sign for a deep fried snickers bar. He was intrigued, I was grossed out. Either way, we had to investigate.
Kyle decided he had to try one! It at least looked a little healthier than this option...

Of course to make sure they really clog your arteries, they also drizzle chocolate on it and a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Kyle said it was delicious!
We ventured to Mo's in Cannon Beach that night for dinner. Kyle loves their clam chowder and they also have what I call the "fancy" grilled cheese; it has three cheeses! Dinner was delicious, and we thought we would end the night by going back to the hotel and watching a movie... but ended up falling asleep and going to bed early. :)
I took the middle of the night feedings with her, so when 7am rolled around Kyle got up with her so that I could get a couple extra hours sleep. Unfortunately, someone else had different plans. I had only been asleep about 20 minutes when I woke up due to an annoying ringing sound. A couple seconds later I heard Kyle calling for me, so I stumbled out of bed into the hallway. This is when I realized it was a very LOUD ringing noise; it was a fire alarm! It had gone off mid diaper change, so when I walked out into the living room Payton was laying on the floor half naked with Kyle's hands over her ears. I quickly helped him put her diaper on, because he didn't want to take his hands off her ears. I then tried calling the front desk to tell them our fire alarm was going off, but no one answered. So, I tried climbing on a chair and turning it off myself! Still hadn't turned off, so I peeked out into the hallway... and after seeing people running for the stairwell, that's when I realized it was going off in the entire building. We threw a blanket over Payton (still half naked), and Kyle hurried out with her while I threw on a sweatshirt and some shoes. I yelled after him "where are you going to be?" and he yelled over his shoulder as he ran down the hallway "outside!" We were really specific huh? After grabbing my stuff, I tried to think where Kyle would have gone. I thought maybe the car, so I hurried into the elevator to go down to that floor. As the elevator doors were closing, I thought to myself "wow, that was the dumbest decision ever" but I was already stuck. I should know by now not to get in the elevator when there's a fire alarm, I don't know what I was thinking! I was just trying to get to my hubby and my baby as quickly as possible. I ran out to the car, and didn't see them, so I decided to go to the lobby. No luck, but I saw a lot of people by the beach, so I ran over there. Still didn't see them. After running around for fifteen minutes, they finally turned the alarm off and started letting people back in the building. I still hadn't found them, so I ran up seven flights of stairs (yes, we were on the 7th floor!) and finally saw them. I had felt so desperate looking for them, that when I saw Kyle I almost burst into tears! Kyle felt really bad (he figured I was probably freaking out) so we decided that next time we would communicate and be a little more specific about where we were going to be. :) So much for sleeping in! Despite that little mishap it was a really fun trip, and I can't wait to make many more memories at the beach!
I went to my last postpartum visit with my OB doctor on Thursday, which was kind of bittersweet. I'm glad I don't have to go to the doctor all the time anymore, but I really liked seeing my doctor and the office staff, they are all really nice. Dr. Bauer and I spent most of the time talking about different options for my next pregnancy (which won't be for a while, I promise!) :) She said that looking back she should have been able to see that I would have such a hard time pushing Payton out, and she recommended that I have a scheduled c-section next time. She said I could certainly try to have a vaginal birth if I really wanted to, but based on the shape of my pelvis (wide at the top but really narrow at the bottom) that I would most likely end up having to have a c-section again anyway. I haven't really decided yet how I feel about that and what I would like to do; but I have lots of time to figure it out!
We're taking Payton to the doctor tomorrow for her two month checkup, and I'm not looking forward to it... she's getting shots. :( We're really interested to see her height and weight though, she has grown so much! She's in all 3 months clothes now, and even some of those are a little too short for her. I'll write a quick update tomorrow to let you know how it goes!
Look how much I've grown!

I'm very pleased to report that things have been looking up since I blogged last! They weren't at first, and I was starting to get discouraged. Basically, if Payton was awake, she wasn't happy. She cried and fussed almost all day, which was very tiring for her exhausted parents! You could tell she was in pain though, and not doing it just to fuss, so I would just hold her while she cried and let her do her thing. We just kept praying for a solution... about 3 days after she started the Zantac I still hadn't seen an improvement, so I called her doctor's office and they suggested trying an elemental formula over the weekend to see if that helped her symptoms while we were waiting for the Zantac to kick in (they told me to give it a week). It's also known as a hypoallergenic formula and is super expensive, but at that point I was willing to give anything a shot! You can't put a price on a happy baby. :) Well about 4 or 5 days after starting the Zantac and about 2 to 3 days after starting the new formula, we began to notice a huge improvement; I had my sweet baby back! I don't want to jinx it, but it has been like night and day, and I just hope that this combination continues to work for her. She can lay on her back again and smile and practice her kicks. Her spitting up has gotten a lot better, and so has her wheezing, although Kyle and I still occasionally hear it. Her doctor was thinking about doing what's called a speech swallow study, which basically means that Payton would drink a bottle of barium and a speech therapist and radiologist would watch her swallow on fluoroscopy, which is like an x-ray. This would be to make sure that the wheezing when eating wasn't coming from her aspirating fluid into her lungs, which could be serious because it could cause pneumonia. We're hoping that the wheezing will just go away so we (and by that I mean Kyle and I!) don't have to go through that. We'll discuss it with her doctor at her next appointment... I'll definitely keep everyone updated! Thank you for all of your positive thoughts and encouragement as well; it makes parenthood so much easier to handle when I hear everyone else's stories too!
Morning naptime!
Happy baby :)
I was glad Payton was feeling so much better, because her grandparents came to visit this weekend! My parents came down on Saturday, and very graciously insisted that Kyle and I take that opportunity to go on our first date night since Payton was born. My mom texted Kyle's mom, and before we knew it, Payton had four babysitters who were all fighting to play with her! :) So while our parents watched her, Kyle and I went out to dinner at the Olive Garden. It was really nice to be out, but before we knew it we were talking about Payton! We had to make an effort to really focus on just us, and so we spent most of the night reminiscing about college and the days of old. We were going to go to a movie but conveniently missed the start time, so we decided to go to Dairy Queen for ice cream so it didn't look like we ate dinner and then rushed back home. :)
Playing on the floor with Grandpa
Taking a nap on Grandma's lap
Kyle and I finally ordered a glider, and we are SO glad we did! We have it downstairs for right now since we're not really spending any time in her room yet, and it has been awesome.
Payton taking a nap with daddy on the new glider...
On Friday Kyle and I visited his old coworkers at Nike, they hadn't met Payton yet and were really excited to. It was great to see them, and needless to say she was a big hit!
This was the outfit I wore to visit daddy's friends... so cute!
So I finally got my wedding ring resized so that I can wear it again... it's been about 5 months since I've been able to wear it, so it's really weird to have it back! I had to get it sized a whole size up, but the lady told me it was still tiny... 4 3/4. Nice to be married again :)
This weekend Kyle, Payton and I are taking a trip to Seaside! We're leaving Thursday, and are really excited to get away for our first family trip to the beach. I will definitely take lots of pictures, hopefully the weather cooperates for us!

What a weekend...
This weekend we went to our friend Tara's wedding. Bryan and Lindsey came up Friday night to spend the night and we all went together. Luckily it was a beautiful day! Of course Payton was due to eat right when the ceremony was scheduled to start, so she and I missed the ceremony while I fed her in the car. That's ok though, we made it to the reception!
Mr. and Mrs. Niles!
Kyle, Payton and I with bride Tara
This was the outfit I wore... I wasn't too happy when this picture was taken though :)
Kyle and I also went for a walk to the store and tried out the Baby Bjorn for the first time... she really liked it!
Hehe :)
Payton has officially outgrown most of her newborn clothes, she's really long! She's growing so fast, but it's kind of fun, because it's like a whole new wardrobe. She recently discovered her fingers, and likes to gnaw on them every once in a while. When we put her in her swing, she just stares at the mobile as it rotates. The bouncy chair is still her favorite place to nap though! Her hemangioma has started to raise a little bit, but nothing too bad. She's starting to enjoy her baths more, or at least tolerate them better. She does NOT like to be cold though, even for a second!
Fresh and clean :)
We began to notice some problems with her starting around last week... you can tell she occasionally gets a tummy ache or some painful gas, but I know all babies fuss and cry so I would just try and comfort her. We tried gas drops but didn't see a difference, so we hoped that it would get better as her digestive system matured. Well we started to notice some other symptoms that got a lot worse last week... she would cry and arch her back and squirm for hours after eating, started spitting up a lot more, and wheezing and having what sounded like some labored breathing. She was also making this gagging, gurgling noise and seemed to be trying to swallow something back. It worsened a lot over the weekend, so I called her doctor's office first thing this morning and got an appointment for like two hours later. That's one of the reasons I love that office! After discussing all of her symptoms, it looks like she might have some acid reflux. It's really common in babies, but becomes a problem when it causes them pain and discomfort. She's still gaining weight though, which is a big relief. She weighed 10 pounds 10 ounces at the doctor today, and they said that was right on for her birth weight. So we're switching her formula to one that is a little thicker with rice starch hoping that it will be a little easier for her food to stay down, and she prescribed her some generic infant Zantac to take twice a day. Hopefully this will really help her discomfort. It sucks to see your baby in pain :( I will definitely keep you posted though!

Another week has already gone by! We spent Easter weekend in Albany, which was fun. Payton got to meet some more cousins, and it was great seeing the whole Hall/Hays family. Kyle and I have just been relaxing this week, which has been really nice. I wish the weather would cooperate more though!
I finally caught a smile! :)
Playing with mommy!
I like this one because it looks like she's picking her nose :)

On my way to Easter dinner!
This weekend we're going to a friend's wedding in Clackamas... we're a little nervous about taking Payton, but they wanted us to bring her so we're going to risk it! I think it's outdoors too... in April... in Oregon... wish us luck!
